The Chapel Hill Planning Department sent out the following update this afternoon.
Over the last few months, staff has been working on next steps for developing an ordinance. Here are some upcoming dates that may be of interest to you:
1. August – September: Staff will be making an introductory presentation to advisory boards and requesting that the boards select a representative to serve on a task force. The public is welcome to attend these meetings. No determinations on the STR ordinance will be made at the meetings—this is simply an opportunity for the advisory board members to learn more about the topic. We will be meeting at the following:
- Community Design Commission (CDC) on August 27th
- Transportation and Connectivity Advisory Board (T-CAB) on August 27th
- Planning Commission on September 3rd
- Historic District Commission (HDC) on September 10th
- Housing Advisory Board (HAB) on September 10th

2. September 11th: Staff will be requesting the Town Council approve the charge and composition of a citizen task force that will convene to discuss STRs. If Council agrees, we will move forward on September 12th on making the applications available.
3. September 23rd: Staff will be holding an open house on this topic on September 23rd at the Senior Center. More details to follow.
4. October 2nd: Should Council agree to the task force, appointments would be made on October 2nd.
5. October: The task force will begin holding a series of meetings
Information will continue to be shared online on the Town’s STR webpage.
We encourage all members and STR supporters to mark your calendars for the September 11 council meeting and the September 23 open house. We will publish and send out the details for both as soon as they become available.
